The Original Chicos Market

In 1928, brothers Sam and Gus Chicos (Tsakopoulos) purchased a corner market in San Francisco's Nob Hill. Over time, it became an integral part of the Nob Hill community, and like other family businesses, the market was eventually passed down to their sons, 'big' Sam and 'little' Sam. For more than 75 years, Chicos Market provided an anchor for the neighborhood and its community.

Go-Getters Market

During the '50s, George Markoulakis immigrated to the United States and began working at Go-Getters Market in the Western Addition. In 1964, he bought the business, and like Sam and his family, George created a community hub for the neighborhood. His son, Greg, had a front-row view of the action. From standing on a milk crate and bagging groceries to managing one of the two stores George owned, Greg was never far from the business (or his father).

A New Era

After two successful grocery businesses on the peninsula and in San Francisco, Greg and Sophia hope to rebuild the legacy that the Chicos family created almost a century ago. Corner markets were (and will always be) part of San Francisco's cultural and economic fabric. Greg and Sophia hope to complement the neighborhood with their vision of the corner store.
